The Good, The Bad, The Ugly and More

THE GOOD:

Debbi from Knit. Run. Reap. Eat. is moving from knitting to running with her new giveaway. Go over for a chance of winning Marathoning For Mortals.

Then check out Revelations of a Delusional Knitter Yarns!, a brand new Etsy shop for Delusional Knitter. Go to the blog for a chance to win a skein from the shop! I've got my eye on a wise Deep Sea Mermaid from the Coral Reef, sitting by a Misty Mountain Waterall, surrounded by Fuschia, Pansy, Petunia and Impatiens, eating a Lime Ice with Buttterscotch sauce and Sacred Sage garnish, under a Stormy Sky that promises to turn Faire, so that the Revelations encoded in the Tesseract can be revealed.

THE BAD:

The Bad News I promised you in the last post is not so bad. My hot water heater sprang a leak some time between 12:30 and 2:00 am Friday. It was less than 8 years old, and is the third I've had in the 35+ years I've lived here. The first was here when I moved in and lasted for about 15-18 years. The second was a used one, moved from a different apartment, and lasted about 10-12 years. The problem is that they were outside on the back porch, totally exposed to the weather. Bad for effeciency, bad for corrosion, but at least when they burst I didn't have to mop up.

I really expected a battle from the landlady (you may recall the electricity debacle), but she just said "These things happen" and "They don't make them like they used to". Everything was handled quickly and smoothly, and the replacement was in by 3:30 Monday afternoon.

THE UGLY:

Here is another entrelac scarf, this time done in Red Heart Super Saver acrylic. I think the colorway is Circus, but the band was missing. EGADS, what was I thinking when I bought this yarn? Decades ago, from Woolworths, where they must have had dozens of less frenetic colors? I give you this link because although I was thinking of the first definition, I think some of the web definitions fit as well, if not better.

This started as a practice piece before I began the mohair cushion. I finished it off because I knew I'd never use this yarn for anything else. It's about 48in x 7in. I hope someone on the street wants it.

MORE SORTA GOOD:

Next is the Irresolution hat. I've taken to randomly moving yarn around from pile to pile until something clicks. This time it's gunmetal grey and lavender heather.
The band is 15 rows of mistake rib, but the 5 middle rows are shifted over by two stitches. Hope that makes sense. I started with a 3 row stripe of the lavender, and then I got funky.
I divided the 84 stitches into 4 sections of 21, and did a different horizontal stripe or fair isle design in each section for 6 rows.
This was followed by a solid stripe of grey, then I went back to stripes and fair isle, but this time in three sections of 28 stitches, so things don't stack up right over each other. I like how this turned out, but I'm strange.

The top band of fair isle is a 3 row cross pattern and a 3 row H pattern, alternating colors. Increasing stripes with a little dot on top. And a little grey strand of yarn where I'd manage d to carry it up outside. Ah, well. If you start with mistake rib, why not finish with a stripe mistake?
Speaking of mistake rib, here's a better shot of the band. I like this texture and may use it in a sweater some time.

Don't ya just love that background in those photos? I do!

MORE SORTA BAD:

Thanks for all the nice comments on the photos from my day at the park. I did want to mention one more thing about the Academy. Bring your own lunch! $9.50 for a celo wrapped sandwich from the cart, Yikes! I didn't even go into the restaurant to check their prices.

Love the hat! I like those colors together. Maybe you can find someone who is color blind to take that cushion :o) Love your little blurb about my shop, VERY creative getting the colorways in there!!!!

You are the yarn thrifting champion, at least in my book, so I thought I should share this with you. I was at the Goodwill yesterday and saw a bag of yarn that had a skein of Red Heart Super Saver in the colorway Circus! I left it for some other fortunate thrifter to find.

Bringing your own lunch is always a good idea - oh my goodness how they overprice at most places like that! :-P

Lots of interesting things you´re showing here, I love the funky hat! :-)
