Have you got a few hours to devote to being totally blissed out on gorgeous pictures of lace? Of course you do, who doesn't!
L A C I S M U S E U M of L A C E & T E X T I L E S
I've never heard of this museum until today, though it's been open for seven years, and was a textile shop for decades before that. It's right across the bay - I could be there in less than an hour. I even temped at an office right by this BART station for a couple months, but that was over a decade ago, when Lacis was a retail store. It was also before I was a knitter, and already slowing down on crochet due to hand pain, so I never knew about the shop either.
Fortunately the website has slideshows of their past and present exhibits, with all sorts of lace and lacemakers... knit, corchet, bobbin, openwork... from the very beginnings of lacework to modern times. And lace is just the beginning! Embroidery, costuming, beadwork in textiles and more. In all there are over 2000 pics in the various slide shows.
You. Will. Be. ASTOUNDED! At least I know I am, and I still have over half the list to look at. I'd love to know a few of your favorite pics.
