Email Fail

I've just changed the email address in my profile from cyberdude (a mail.com domain) to Yahoo. Mail.com has blown up again, and I'm pretty damn sick of it.

A while back they changed their login page. I couldn't login. I contacted their help desk and said "I can't login on your new login page." They wrote back and said "You can change the settings once you login." I wrote back and said "I can't login since you changed the login page. If I can't login, I can't change the settings so I'll be able to login." They said "If you can't login, it's the fault of your computer. Do not contact us again." I kept checking in for a couple days, and sure enough they changed something and I could login again.

Was I smart enough to change providers and move all the contact info and emails I wanted to save? No, I was not.

I keep Flash disabled as my normal running state, as it keeps a lot of annoying ads from loading. But once in a while I'll have Flash activated to allow me to enjoy some videos or games. After another update to mail.com, if Flash is active I can't compose emails. Read, Move, Delete, Mark as Spam - yes. Reply, Forward, Compose - NO!

Yet another update, and I discovered that I can no longer Reply, Forward, or Compose in Mail.com from the library computers either.

Was I smart enough (either time) to change providers and move all the contact info and emails I wanted to save? No, I was not.

Mail.com had added that horrible feature where you could pull in emails from other provider's accounts to their service. If I wanted all my eggs in one basket, I'd only have one basket. I ignored this new feature, but it didn't ignore me. I went out and tried to steal my emails from another provider. I didn't let it. It keeps trying, I keep not letting it.

Was I smart enough to change providers and move all the contact info and emails I wanted to save? No, I was not.

Today I tried to read my email and got the screen you see above.

Was I smart enough to change providers and move all the contact info and emails I wanted to save? Well, sort of. I've changed my profile to the Yahoo address. The problem with that is now I have to see if Yahoo will let me steal my emails from Mail.com. The other problem is that I'm not too crazy about Yahoo either.

If all goes well I'll be getting everyone's contact info from the Mail.com site transfered to Yahoo. Otherwise, please feel free to email me at Yahoo so I can add you as a contact there. Thanks.

ETA:
Thanks for the info Vivianne. One of the reasons I said I didn't care much for Yahoo is that their latest version leaves my poor old computer in the dust. I still have my account set up for their Classic version, which they don't like at all, but do allow. For how long, who knows? Cyberdude just periodically changes the program and too bad for anyone with problems!

Anyway, the Yahoo classic version doesn't offer this option, so I created a new account in the newest version and tried to add the cyberdude address, which was fine with Yahoo, but... they sent a confirmation email to cyberdude, which I can't login to confirm. Which I find kind of funny... I had to tell Yahoo the name of the account and the password for the cyberdude account. They then tried it and found it worked. But in order for me to

Also, when I first started with cyberdude they were using the AOL email engine and I could login via AOL's mail program. When they upgraded they denied access, saying that the ONLY way to login was thru their own website. This is, of course, at the same time as they tried to hi-jack my Yahoo account. So I think even if I get connected thru Yahoo, cyberdude may deny access. Won't know until I can login and reply to the confirmation email. Which if I could do that, I wouldn't need the Yahoo account.

So there's also Hotmail, which has kept a lean engine that I can access from home or the library, but I don't think from Mom's computer anymore. Problem is that a new hotmail address comes with a zillion built-in spammers. Not hotmail's fault, they just seem to be the most spammed email service in the world.

There's the email thru my internet provider, AT&T, but if I should ever have to move in with Mom, I would be in a Verizon only area. Verizon has kept their territories proprietary, while the other phone carriers have pretty much opened up to competition. Mom hates Verizon, however, so she has her phone thru Comcast. I hate Comcast with a passion. They have done Mom just about every kind of dis-service I can imagine. I won't go into it here, but trust me - they stink on ice.

I've never tried a Gmail account, but I guess I'll look into them to see how well they run on this old wreck. It just seems like Google has a pretty big paw print on my internet experience already.

Well, by now I must have whined enough to satisfy just about everybody, so I'll just go have some lunch. Bye!

MORE ETA:
I've downloaded Chrome, something else I've beem avoiding, and have to say I'm not impressed right off the bat, but it did at least get into Mail.com. I've downloaded the contacts from there and will import them into Yahoo after I get back from Mom's. First I'll be forwarding all the important emails I've saved from all my wonderful blog friends. I'll have to see if I can find a batch forward function, but I doubt it, so I'll be sending them one by one, and there's a couple hundred I just can't live without! OK, that's a little dramatic, but I hope you know what I mean.

One reason I've avoided Chrome is that I figured a lot of my older protection programs wouldn't work with anything but IE, and that proved to be true. I'll give Chrome a chance for a couple days. I sure haven't seen any speed increase over IE, and if I gave in to impulse and added all the interesting looking extensions, I'm sure it would slow down something fierce. Still, I'll try to be fair about it.

I know a lot of these problems are due to the age of my machine, but that can't be helped. You know how long I've been stalling over a new camera - well a new computer it going to take a lot longer! Now I really will stop whining. Bye again!

Yes, you can get Yahoo to pick up your mail: click options, then mail accounts; click 'add' & follow the instructions :-) HTH x

I use the old basic html version of gmail - it doesn't bother you with any google+ crap. Very nice.
